DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - When you walk in the front door of the Daviess County Museum you'll see that you've got a big climb ahead of you. The building the museum is in right now was built in the 1860s. So the staircase goes up and up and even up a little bit more.

When the historical society took over the building they were able to put in an elevator. But it's pretty small and not the easiest to use.

That's where the Access to History project comes in. The project looks to renovate that storefront on the first floor. This will provide better access to folks wanting to understand the history of the county.

Access to History looks to cost a little more than $300,000.

German American bank and RTC Communications recently donated a combined $50,000 to help get the project going.

Bruce Smith with the Daviess County Museum says, "Many people cannot fully participate and have access to our exhibits and our displays and programs. So the main emphasis, the main focus, is to make our programs, to make our displays, and make our meetings more accessible to the public."
