TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Terre Haute Police are asking for your help in an investigation. That’s after being called to a local motel on Sunday. It happened at the Statesman Inn at 3rd Street and 7th Avenue. Police were called there for an armed robbery around 7 that morning. However, a few hours later, officers returned with a search warrant. Witnesses told News 10 they think it was a drug bust. Meanwhile, investigators have not released any more details, but they are asking for people with information to call them. That number is 812-238-1661.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTHI) – Live coverage on a bill that could bring a casino to Terre Haute starts at noon Eastern. Jon Swaner will head to the statehouse in Indianapolis. That’s as Senate Bill 552 is expected to go before House leaders for the last time. As we’ve been telling you, that bill would bring a casino to Terre Haute. Lawmakers spent much of last week in session. 30 amendments were filed for SB552, but less than half of them were heard. If it passes Monday, it will go to a conference committee.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTHI) – A bill that centers on child welfare will also be heard today. Senate Bill 1 would help foster parents and kids in a variety of ways. One would give the Department of Child Services at least 12 months to track down a foster child’s family members. Foster kids would also be allowed to reunite with previous foster families. That’s if they’ve left the system and came back. Another portion of the bill would give foster parents a voice in court.

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Vigo County leaders say they’re closer to deciding where to build a new jail. That’s according to the latest status report. County leaders are considering three potential sites. In the report, it says the commissioners received two appraisals for two properties. Those are near the federal prison and the former golf course near the mall. The appraisal for property near the current jail should be received early next week. Commissioners say they’ll have a decision made in two weeks. The update says the council will then hold a meeting in early May to discuss the decision.

Today is the deadline to file your taxes. If you’re falling behind, there’s still time to get yours in. Just ask to file an extension. Both Indiana and Illinois Departments of Revenue offer free filing online.

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Road work along Interstate 70 should wrap up by 10 this morning. This impacts drivers in Clay County. Crews started working on the right lane and shoulder along I-70 Westbound last night. They’ve been patching and installing drains just east of State Road 59. Traffic was reduced to one lane as a result.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Part of Poplar Street will close in just a few minutes in Terre Haute. This includes the eastbound lane, from 25th Street to Fruitridge Avenue. Crews will close the area at 7 to widen the road. The westbound lane will be open. Work is expected to be finished on May 3rd.
