president donald trump. president trump's budget proposal for 2020 could potentially hurt farmers if congress approves it. that's according to ones we spoke with. that proposal would mean that the u.s. department of agriculture could see a 15 perecent decrease in it's funds. news 10's richard solomon spoke to a local farmer about what this could mean. he joins us now live with that farmers thoughts. //////// i'm here on hayhurst farms where i spoke with terry hayhurst. he's been farming here for the last 35 years. he told me this proposal could decrease funding for the department... nearly 3.6 billion dollars. hayhurst is concerned about one area in particular.... crop insurance . to be clear...crop insurance is purchased by agricultural producers to protect them against loss of crops from natural disasters like floods. if congress were to approve this...it would drop crop insurance down. hayhurst feels this could impact everyone eventually. //////// " it's good that we're concerned about where we have our spending done we just need to make sure we do it in a manor where it doesn't hurt individuals and helps the country as a whole ....." ///////// this number ///////// this number is just an estimate but hayhurst does estimate but hayhurst does estimate but is just an this number ///////// whole ....." ///////// this number is just an estimate but hayhurst does expect some kind of decrease farmers should be prepared for. coming up at 6 we'll hear more from hayhurst on how this could even affect you at home. reporting live in vigo county im news 10's richard solomon back to you rondrell. //////////
