lasted three days. late last night.. illinois state police reported a trooper was hit by a passing truck. you can see the damage here from that crash... the trooper was working to slow down traffic at the time of the accident. he's in stable condition at this hour... but sadly, this isn't the only incident like this.. this year. news 10's garrett brown talked with the illinois state police today. new for you tonight at 6...he has more on the department's message to keep their troopers safe. last night's accident took place near collinsville, illinois. that's on the western part of the state. but this accident isn't the first related to troopers being hit alongside the road. get this since january fourth this year there have been "fourteen" squad car crashes with their emergency lights activated. this number is nearly doubled compared to last year's total of eight incidents. the one crash many people remember was back on january twelfth. that's where trooper christopher lambert was killed working a three vehicle crash. the illinois state police department is reminding everyone of "scott's law" or the "move over law." if you approach an emergency vehicle stopped along the road you must reduce speed and change lanes if possible. troopers will be strictly enforcing the law to get this life saving message across. "thus far we have issued about 500 citations for this offense compared to last year which was one hundred and eighty one. so i would say that we are trying to get the word out and getting people to slow down and move over." the last very bad year in illinois was 20-15. that year there were 27 reported incidents of troopers being hit while pulled over on the side of the road. back to you. tonight
