Indiana American Water made an announcement this week. If approve by the IURC, customers could see a nearly 8 percent increase by 2020. The company is justifying the move because it says it’s invested more than $540 million in infrastructure. A hearing about the increase is set for April 11th. The increase would come in two parts. The first step would happen this summer at around 1.7 percent. The rest of the increase would happen in 2020.

Vigo County leaders now have until mid-May to pick a location. It’s the latest order from a federal judge. It stems from a lawsuit involving jail inmates from years ago. Meanwhile, the judge has ordered the county to give monthly reports on its progress to fix the problem. Right now, there are four places county leaders are considering to put the jail. One of them is at its current location near the Vigo County Courthouse.

A committee, assigned to look at a bill that could bring a casino to Terre Haute, wants more time to consider it. About 100 people from the city made the trip to the Indiana Statehouse on Wednesday. The House Public Policy Committee could vote on Senate Bill 552 as early as next week.

A financing scenario is being discussed for a convention center in Terre Haute. The Redevelopment Commission met Wednesday. The $32.5 project will be paid for by the county, city, capital improvement board and the city’s redevelopment commission. The next step for the Downtown TIF Amendment is to go to the Area Planning Commission. That happens on April 3rd.

Bryan Robertson is expected to plead guilty soon. Police say he caused a crash that killed a former Parke County sheriff and his wife. A judge set a change of plea hearing for Robertson. Police say he was driving under the influence in December 2017. They say he crossed the center line and hit another vehicle, killing Mike and Darla Eslinger. Robertson’s hearing is scheduled for April 11th. He could be sentenced during that same hearing.

Vigo County deputies are investigating what led to a crash Wednesday night in Southern Vigo County. It happened near U.S. 41 and Gilchrist Drive. We do know at least one person went to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. We caught video as crews cleaned up the area. Both Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputies and Indiana State Police were there to assist the investigation.

A dangerous intersection could see changes next year. This applies to the Y intersection at State Road 57 and Meridian Street. That’s in Washington, Indiana. The project will reroute Meridian Street from its current Y intersection. Meridian will meet up with State Road 57 at a 90 degree angle.

Springhill Drive and 7th Street is closed to a one lane this morning. We’ve put a map on your screen. This applies to the area along U.S. 41 to 7th Street. Crews will be installing a storm sewer and widening the road to add a center turn lane. It could take about a month to finish the project.
