severe weather season is nearly upon us and experts say now is the time to make sure your property is protected against severe weather. here's what you can do. < severe weather can happen fast - and property restoration expert chad overton says first and foremost - protect lives first. chad overton: "they need to obviously be aware of any warnings that they get and to adhere to those warnings. the warnings are given for specific reasons in order to get inside and protect yourselves and animals for that matter as well." ahead of the severe weather - overton says to always be aware of the condition of your property. overton: "routine maintenance. make sure your gutters are cleaned out make sure the roof is intact that there are no things that would impact the building so to speak." he says the wabash valley usually deals with wind and water damage when it comes to severe weather. overton: "and the wind you really can't so much prepare for. you know you can only do so much to make sure the roof doesn't blow off so to speak or windows don't get broken. with the water there are some things you can do like make sure the perimeter drains are working." overton says to make sure you get any damage repaired quickly because more damage can happen due to the first severe weather event. overton: "don't wait. contact somebody locally that you trust that has a reputation to assess the damage and get that information to your insurance carrier." in terre haute brady harp. storm team 10.>
