VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - We now know who the new superintendent of the Vigo County School Corporation will be.
That person will be Dr. Robert Haworth.
Who is Dr. Robert Haworth?
- Started his career as a social studies teacher
- Served as a superintendent in Springs Valley Community Schools in French Lick, Indiana and in Warsaw, Indiana
- Started as superintendent at the Elkhart Community Schools in June of 2012
- Served as Vice President of the National Association Athletics
- Earned a BA in Education at Greeneville College in 1988
- Earned MA n Education at Indiana University Southeast in 2000
- Earned Ph.D. in Education at Indiana State University in 2004
Dr. Haworth was the superintendent at Elkhart Community Schools, in northern Indiana.
He's held that position since 2012.
On Thursday morning, Elkhart Community Schools sent a press release saying “Pending board approval, I (Haworth) will be accepting a position of superintendent with Vigo County School Corporation."

In that release, Haworth went on to say “As I am sure many families experience, as our loved ones age, the daily living basics can become more challenging. That is true for me at this time and there is a need for me to be closer to my family.”
In a press release sent later in the day from the Vigo County School Corporation, it states by accepting this job, Haworth will be closer to his aging parents.

He went to Indiana State University for his doctorate.
Just before 3:00 on Thursday, the Vigo County School Corporation confirmed their selection of Haworth.
Haworth replaces long-time superintendent Dr. Danny Tanoos.

Tanoos announced his retirement in February of this year.
