CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - We are learning more about a Monday morning semi fire on Interstate 70 in Clay County.
It happened around 5:30 near the 17-mile-marker.
Indiana State Police say 47-year-old Michael Baniel of Montgomery, Alabama was the driving the semi.
Police say Baniel heard a tire explosion on his trailer.
He pulled over right away.
Baniel saw flames coming from the trailer and grabbed a fire extinguisher to unsuccessfully fight the blaze.
Emergency crews had to close the eastbound lanes down completely for about one hour to fight the fire.
Police say Baniel had Tyson Chicken in the trailer.
I-70 fully reopened around 11:00 a.m. Monday morning.
