TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Forget "white Christmas," Rethink Inc. says try a "green Christmas."

WTHI News 10 spoke with Kelsey Terry of Rethink Inc. She says there are many ways to be environmentally friendly during the holidays.

Terry says it all goes back to the old adage, "reduce, reuse, recycle."

She says re-using wrapping materials you acquire during the year, or using old newspapers are easy swaps to make.

She says, "If every family in America would wrap three presents with reusable materials, it would actually be the equivalent of 45,000 football fields laying that wrapping paper out flat. So you really can make an impact. "

Another good way to reduce waste is by gifting "experiences". Terry says it saves wrapping and materials to gift things like manicures, massages, or passes to venues, like museums.

Terry adds that wrapping paper and ribbons have a lot of dyes and toxins that aren’t good for humans or for the planet. She says that’s another reason people should think about using recyclable or reusable materials.

Also, she says it’s a very cost-effective way to wrap. Terry says sometimes the wrapping paper and bags are more expensive than the gift.

If you are passionate about helping the environment and want to reach out to Rethink Inc. Terry says the best way to do so is by Facebook.
