TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Vigo County Capital Improvement Board took more steps towards building a new downtown convention center.
Both the City of Terre Haute and Vigo County have each pledged $10 million towards the project.
The Vigo County Convention and Visitor's Bureau pledged another $5 million.
On Wednesday morning, the three entered into a written interlocal agreement.
This will allow the CIB to pursue bonding.
First, the city council, county council, and visitor's bureau board must approve the money.
The CIB will then bond $25 million.
The project's costs have escalated to $31 million.
Board president Jon Marvel said the CIB's request will go before a county council committee in April.
It should go before the entire council in May.
If the council approves the plan, construction of the convention center will begin once the bonds are secured.
This could begin as early as this summer.
