SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) - Sullivan High School has been awarded the Purple Star designation.
The designation is a recognization of students who have difficulties when their parents are deployed.

It also focuses on kids with active-duty parents. Southwest School Corporation has a place on its website where families can go to see what the corporation offers for them.
We spoke with a teacher. She said it's important to support the students.
"I think it's really important for a small rural community, who might not think that there are many kids impacted by deployments. I know that we have family members whose family members are in the Guard and served in the Guard. We recognize that their parents' commitment can be difficult for them," Lynn Norris said.
