TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI)- United Way of the Wabash Valley and Terre Haute Ministries joined together to create a two-day event happening on July 23rd and 24th focused on serving the Terre Haute community.
The event kicked off today with over a hundred volunteers participating at various non-profits. One being Shine Foster Family Resources. Volunteers helped sort clothing that will be distributed to those in the foster care system.
"All of these non-profit organizations are really hurting because of the pandemic, so just any way we can help them is awesome right now," said volunteer, Angel Goble."
Another non-profit receiving help from volunteers is Meals on Wheels. They give back to the community by providing meals for the sick, elderly, and disabled. The non-profit has never had a building of their own, but that all changed as of recently. They are grateful to have a space to call home and cook meals for those in need.
Volunteers helped paint, landscape, and clean the new space today.
"The need is there. COVID has proved more than ever. The need is there, we just need to provide for the people who need it" said the executive director for Meals on Wheels, Rita Kaperak.
