TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - We're right in the thick of the holiday shopping season.
But two organizations want to be sure you also remember it's also the season of giving.
Now, Toys for Tots is teaming up with the Salvation Army.
The need for many families across the Wabash Valley is growing.
Last year, the Salvation Army signed up 133 families for their Christmas Assist Program by this point in the year.
This year, that number is already at 873 families.
Meanwhile, we recently teamed up with the Marine Corp League for the annual Toys for Tots push.
Officials say after that push, they were flooded with calls from parents needing to sign up for the program.
That is why the two groups combined.
They held another sign up for Toys for Tots on Friday.
It's something organizers say was very necessary.
"You take care of your own. You live in this community, and you want to live in a nice community, and you wouldn't want your children to have a Christmas morning without presents," Gunnery Sergeant Andrew Smith said.
Even though the sign-ups are over, there's still a need for donations.
