TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A local college worked to lay roots for a greener future.

On Friday, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology celebrated its "Tree Campus" designation for 2017.

It's an honor from the Arbor Day Foundation.

Students and staff planted more trees during a ceremony on the Rose campus.

There are already 1,200 trees on the 250-acre campus.

Colleges that are "Tree Campuses" must have plans for tree care and urban forest growth.
