CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A 26-hour long standoff in Clay County has ended with the suspect in custody.
It started around 10:15 Thursday morning at the Best Western hotel near the Brazil exit on Interstate 70.

The US Marshals Service and the Terre Haute Police Department were trying to serve a warrant on 40-year-old Shannon Jeffers, of West Terre Haute.
When police went to his room, they announced who they were. That's when Jeffers allegedly fired one shot through the door at police.
Police backed away and cleared the hotel, setting up a perimeter.
The Terre Haute Police Department Special Response Team along with hostage negotiators were called in. They were able to talk with Jeffers. Later on Thursday, he released two hostages.
An Indiana State Police SWAT team took over around 1 am on Friday. He allegedly continued to fire gunshots at officers during the overnight hours.
Around 12:30 pm Friday, Jeffers peacefully surrendered.
The original warrant police were trying to serve Jeffers for was for probation violations. He will face an additional charge of attempted murder.
