Although we’ll celebrate Columbus Day on Monday, today, October 12th, is the historical anniversary of Mr. Columbus’ landing.

A former pirate with at least four criminals in his crew, Columbus landed on the island of Hispaniola.

In fact, Columbus NEVER set foot on North America’s main continent! He already knew the Earth was round, as did everybody else.

His primary purpose was to convert all natives he encountered to Christianity, with a secondary goal of finding an easy trade route to India and China.

He did bring horses to the Americas, but also brought smallpox! Columbus a hero? You decide.
