TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The men's head basketball coach at Indiana State University is no stranger to the Fork in the Road.
In fact, a while back, Coach Greg Lansing tipped off Chief Photojournalist Mike Latta and the gang about Sushi Umi here in Terre Haute.
So when Lansing called the crew to tell them about his favorite place for a great burger, they loaded up and met him there.
"If there hadn't already been a bar in Boston named cheers it would be here, because people come in, they know each other and they hang out,” explained Tom Hellmann, 7th and Elm Bar and Grille. “It's really a place that's casual."
And that's just one reason why Lansing is such a big fan of the 7th and Elm Bar and Grille. Another reason would be the food, starting with the appetizers.
"The pub fries are brand new to our menu, we are changing our fries to a thinner fry so it comes out crispier,” Hellmann explained. “And we add queso cheese and cheddar and bacon. All the things that make things taste good."
"Addictive to say the least, those buffalo dippers are unbelievable, I thought the goat cheese was really good,” Lansing said. “So many good things, our guys love to come in here and they love getting the wings, so we spend a lot of time over here."
But coach says the slam dunk at 7th and Elm is the burgers.
"All our beef is locally raised, so it's not a frozen patty from Cincinnati, it's one that's made for us,” Hellmann said. “You can tailor whatever you want, to what you are thinking that day. And you know throwing eggs on there, bacon, cheese like I did. Just load it with whatever ya want."
Now the 7th and Elm Bar and Grille has much more than appetizers and burgers. They have salads, wings, pizzas and even dessert.
And instead of a burger, you can load up a chicken, veggie burger or even a portabella sandwich.
