TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A shipment of new fire gear is expected to arrive at the Terre Haute Fire Department on Friday.
It's the first of many shipments of the nearly 230 new gear sets they ordered.
The Board of Public Works approved the purchase for the department last month.
As firefighters get called out to fire, over time, their gear suffers wear and tear.
If current gear is damaged, crews will now be able to put on back-u gear to replace it.
Fire Chief Jeff Fisher said having two sets of gear will be a first for the department.
Because fire gear has an expiration date...it is recommended that the gear is replaced every 10 years.
This new gear will at no cost to taxpayers.
