INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTTV) – A police procession escorted the body of fallen Boone County Deputy Jacob Pickett from the north side to downtown Indianapolis Monday morning.

The procession started around 9:15 a.m. at St. Vincent Hospital and made its way to the Marion County Coroner’s Office, winding along a route from W. 86th St. to Meridian St. to 38th St. and Dr. Martin Luther King Street before arriving at the final destination on McCarty Street.

Officers saluted as Pickett’s body was moved from the hospital to a hearse. Dozens of police vehicles led the way during the procession before it made its final stop at the coroner’s office.

About an hour and a half after it began, Pickett’s remains were taken inside the coroner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Officers again saluted as Pickett’s coach passed.

Pickett was mortally wounded Friday while helping Lebanon police officers serve a warrant. Authorities said Friday that he would not survive his wounds. He was taken off life support early Monday morning.

Pickett was an organ donor, and his heart will go to a patient at St. Vincent Hospital. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday and his funeral will be held Friday.

All Boone County offices will be closed on Friday, March 9, in memory of the fallen deputy.
