CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ill. (WTHI) - Talk about putting your talents to good use! In Crawford County, people are singing for a reason!

This year, that reason is the Harper family, who has embarked on an incredible journey.

Wife and Mother Kim Harper says, "We had gone to an orphanage and there were several children who were eating out of a bowl of rice that had been on the ground, and it had been in the sun for a long time and there were flies in it. And at that moment God really started planting a seed for a love of Haiti and a love of the children."

Adoption would be on the Harper's hearts for many years to follow.

Harper says, "We prayed about it and we knew that as soon as we started the adoption journey, especially with a third world country, all of the risks all of the financial barriers that were going to be occurred but we just chose to follow."

But luckily, it's a journey the family doesn't have to travel alone. This year, Crawford County Caroling for a Cause has chosen the Harper's as its "cause". They're raising money by, you guessed it, joyfully singing holiday tunes.

One organizer for Caroling for a Cause, Marty Kirk says, "We've kind of learned to trust. That when you feel like this is what you're supposed to do that's what we need to go with, and God has blessed us with it every year."

The fundraiser has been going since 2014. Each year, there’s a new cause, and opportunity to help. However, not just the "causes" benefit from the caroling.

Another organizer, Kayla Weaver reflects, "The people that we sing to, you can just tell, that they're always impacted. There's people that have cried, there's people that are like, 'Wow, I really needed this.' And then we're always really blessed by it to and we feel glad that we're doing this."

So as the community surrounds the Harper’s with support through song, it motivates the family to pursue their purpose.
Harper says, "I can't imagine what that moment is going to be like when we bring him in and we're just able to hold him and nurture and grow him in our family."

If you'd like to donate to Caroling for a Cause, you can contact Kayla Weaver or Marty Kirk on Facebook. Or, you can call Kayla at 618-554-4135. Caroling for a Cause covers Crawford County, and plans to carol on December 17th, 18th, and possibly the 19th if there is enough interest. You’re welcome to donate as much as you’d like to the cause!
