TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Art pieces are helping people explore literature at the Vigo County Public Library.
Local artists created pieces based on this year's "Big Read" book, "When the Emperor was Divine."
Several artists have their Big Read work on display at the library.
On Monday, there was a special reception.
When the Emperor was Divine follows the story of a Japanese-American family sent to an internment camp.
One artist found a unique way to express feelings from the book.
"My husband came home with this old drawer from a dresser being thrown away. Not for it to be a celebrated piece, but more of a piece showing the effects of the internment on the people from the camp," artist Christel Gutelius said.
This art show is just one project under this year's Big Read Program.
