Indiana State University announces two finalists in Presidential search

Indiana State University has named the two finalists in the Presidential search.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Indiana State University has named the two finalists in the Presidential search. 

The two finalists are Deborah Curtis, provost and chief learning officer at the University of Central Missouri, and Michael Licari, who has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Indiana State since July 2015.

“We are very pleased to have two incredibly strong candidates for this critically important position, both of whom understand and fully support Indiana State’s mission and both of whom we feel have the skills and experience to be successful as its next president. We were prepared for the possibility of three or four finalists, but in the end these two candidates distinguished themselves among all others,” said Jeff Taylor, chair of the presidential search committee and secretary of the ISU Board of Trustees.

70 candidates were in the beginning pool of this search and the search committee narrowed it down to nine before selecting the two finalists. 

Curtis earned her Ph.D. from Indiana State and also taught at the former University School. In addition to serving as provost of Indiana State, Licari has a son who is a freshman at the university.

Licari’s interview will take place on Oct. 25-26, while Curtis will visit campus on Nov. 1-2.

In addition to a series of private interview sessions with the trustees and other campus groups, each candidate will have a dessert reception with community and volunteer leaders and open sessions for staff, students and faculty. The schedules for these sessions are:
