TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Relief has been far and few when it comes to rain, and a lot of people have noticed. After a shower made its way through the Wabash Valley, some people were overjoyed.

"I was so happy to spend the time in the house and watch it rain today."

Patricia Weaver manages the community garden at Indiana State University. She says no matter how much we do, it's rainwater that plants really benefit from.

"So no matter how much well water you give them, or how much city water you provide them, they will not do their thing without the adequate amount of rain."

Although our rain wasn't much, it was still beneficial for more than just plants.

"The rain today broke the drought, that we only were one day in, but nevertheless it broke the drought."

Weaver says even though we can't physically see it, changes could be coming.

"What its going to change is the fact that we will get additional rain. The atmosphere is no longer dry."

But it still doesn't shed much light on our upcoming weather.

"I've never seen a year like this one though."

Which goes to show just how unpredictable mother nature can be.

The community garden officially closes for the season October 31st.
