WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTHI)- The familiar sights and sounds of the holiday season returned to Washington for the 27th consecutive year.
The annual Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #101, hosted Cops and Kids at Wal-Mart at the US 50 and State Road 57.
This year, 134 children from the Head Start schools and Kids Stuff pre-school in Davies and Martin Counties were escorted by more than 100 Law Enforcement Officers, Fire Fighters, Community Correction Officers, and other volunteers from agencies throughout the area.
Several thousand dollars has been raised this year from donations to the F.O.P. for the officers and other volunteers to purchase anything the children may need, and toys they want.
Jared Mann, officer in Davies county, has been doing this event for three years.
"The smiles on the kids faces whenever they get to come in here and spend time with everybody," Mann said. "It's memorable."
Sparky the Fire Preventon Pup was there to assist Santa and the Officers. The Grinch also made an appearance and mingle with the children.
After the shopping, the children had a police escort to the Moose Family Center for lunch.
