TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI): Terry Hayhurst is a local farmer in Vigo County. He’s been farming here for the past 35 years. On a recent business trip to Washington DC he learned about the 2020 budget proposal.
He saw that there could be a decrease in funding for the United States Agriculture Department of nearly 15 percent. This was alarming to him.
Hayhurst has a few concerns if this were to be approved. One area that he’s worried about is crop insurance.
This is basically a safety net for farmers in case a disaster occurs.
Hayhurst doesn’t believe that congress will approve this.
“If you eat 3 times a day you’re engaging in agriculture,” said Hayhurst.
