It took five days and more than 1,000 eggs to put together a $1 million cake that was put on display at an exhibition in Dubai.

The life-sized Arabian bride cake is covered with five diamonds of the finest clarity, "at three carats and $200,000 each", according to the designer.

Celebrity designer Debbie Wingham said when she was approached by Dubai Bride Show to make a cake, she immediately had the idea to shape it as an Arabian bride.

The bride may look very "lean and slender", Wingham joked, but the piece of confectionery weighs 120 kilograms.

"So she's heavier than she looks but cake does tend to be that way and that's mainly because she has 1,000 eggs, in the making of just the cake aspect. So that's quite a lot," she said.

To decorate the cake, edible pearls and 5,000 hand-cut flowers were fixed onto it.

The edible bride is not for sale but Wingham said she is open to creating similar cakes for future brides.

After the show, the cake will be disposed of for hygiene reasons.
