TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Losing a friend or fellow student can be difficult at any age.
That's why the Vigo County School Corporation will have extra support as students return to school from spring break.
The trauma loss team will be on hand at Terre Haute South Vigo High School starting on Tuesday.
Grief counselors will be talking to students and staff.
Garrett Sands attended Terre Haute South.
He was shot and killed last week.
We talked to school corporation leaders about why this kind of service is so important.
"We have very well-trained counselors in our building to probe and listen, and guide them to grieve appropriately...and to channel that energy in positive ways," Dr. Tom Balitewicz said.
The school support team includes staff from other schools, pastors, and mental health agencies.
