KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Construction is underway on a major project in Knox County.
This week school administrators broke ground on a new gymnasium in the North Knox School Corporation after North Knox middle school and high school merged to the same campus.
"We wanted to be able to have a building that we could utilize 8 hours a day instead of just being able to utilize a building like we're currently utilizing 2 hours a day for maybe three or four months a year," said Darrel Bobe, North Knox Schools Superintendant.
But the transition hasn't been easy. District parents voted to make this vision a reality - by a close margin of 1,051 in favor and 762 against.
The North Knox School Board says this new gym will benefit everyone in the community not just the students.
The project is expected to be completed within a year and six months and Bobe says the project could finish in as soon as a year.
