FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Columbia City High School football player was taken to the hospital in critical condition Friday night after sustaining an injury in a football game.
According to officials at Lutheran Hospital, Sam Dailey was listed in critical condition at the hospital Saturday afternoon.
WANE-TV spoke to Columbia City's football coach, Randy Hudgins, on Saturday afternoon. He confirmed that Dailey sustained an injury in the football game Friday night and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Columbia City's team was playing Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw.
Hudgins said it's hard to tell where Dailey was hurt and how the injury happened.
He told WANE-TV that the support he has witnessed from everyone was really touching.
"We had great support not only from our players, but their parents and our community," Hudgins said.
WANE-TV also reached out to Columbia City High School's Athletic Director, Geoff Penrod, but he declined to comment on the incident.
Hudgins said they are optimistic about Dailey's recovery.
