BRAZIL, Ind. (WTHI) - This installment of "Hey Kevin" took Kevin Orpurt to Brazil, Ind. with Peyton and Alex Cassidy.
They want to know: "Hey Kevin! Why does it lightning and then thunder?"
Have you ever looked at a thunderstorm cloud and it's all big and puffy and so on? You know what's inside that cloud? Ice!
And there's ice that's going up and down all inside that cloud. That ice rubs together back and forth and it builds up an electrical charge.
When that electricity comes down, out of the cloud, it will sometimes hit a tree or something else.
That lightning is really hot: 50,000 degrees.
When the air gets very hot it expands and there's a big shock wave that goes outside. And as that shock wave goes out, it makes a sound.
So, inside the cloud, there's lightning and then there's thunder.
If you would like to be a part of the "Hey Kevin" and have Kevin Orpurt come to your house, all you have to do is go to WTHITV.com and submit your question.
