TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Sunday afternoon in southern Vigo County hundreds came out towatch locals smash up their lawn mowers.
According to Steve Sanford, an event organizer, it's called the2009 Redneck Riding Lawn Mower Event.
For Dwayne Bout, this was his first derby.
"I am used to derbing cars and my buddy was not able to afford acar this year so he got me into lawn mower derby," said Bout.
Sanford said a lot of the people out there smashing up therelawn mowers do not mind being called rednecks.
"I got the gashes in my head," said George Scott, who gotinjured on Sunday.
The next lawn mower derby will be at the Cory Apple Festival inSeptember.
