VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Vigo County Relay for Life volunteers were out painting the town purple Saturday morning!
The volunteers repainted the purple cancer awareness ribbon at the intersection of 8th Street and Wabash Avenue.
This is in recognition of the 21st year Vigo County has hosted the Relay for Life event.
They also posted cancer awareness signs and purple ribbons down Wabash.
Organizers say they want to help better promote cancer awareness in the community.
"So many people are affected by cancer, here in Vigo County and nationally. it's really important we make sure they know that we have a full support system available to help them through the whole process," said Ashley Jones, chair of the Vigo County Relay for Life.
This year, they added an additional location and painted a new cancer awareness ribbon on North 9th Street on Indiana State University's campus. That's the site for the Relay For Life Colleges event held on April 20.
The Vigo County Relay for Life event takes place on June 8 this year.
