VIGO CO., Ind. (WTHI) - Emergency service agencies in Terre Haute came up with a new proposal for next year's contract with Vigo County Commissioners.
During Tuesday morning's County Commissioner's meeting, Terre Haute Fire Departments, Emergency Medical Services and the Emergency Management Agency requested that for emergency calls, they want to use whichever medic is closest to the scene, regardless its sponsored agency.
They say the volume of calls is increasing, and time is the most crucial factor in providing the best rescue and medical assistance.
"As Fire Chief of Sugar Creek Township, I don't care about the money at that time. I'm there for my citizens—my township—and they need the service what needs to be provided," said Sugar Creek Fire Department Chief Darrick Scott.
The proposal also included adding five advanced and four basic ambulance units.
Commissioners will review the proposal later this week.
