The storm in Oklahoma claimed lives and many others are living without homes, and now the long road to recovery has begun.
Local insurance companies said what happened can serve as important reminders to everyone.
They said you should have a policy that insures your home for at least the same value.
However, it's a good idea to take out your replacement value, which may be more. That's because it will cost you more to replace your home if it is destroyed.
"You might want to contact your agent, make sure you have those guaranteed replacement cost values on your home and you know make sure you're all set. Make sure your home is insured at replacement value," Rich Dunkin of Howard Clare insurance said.
They also said to talk with your agent to make sure their office has a contingency plan should their place of business be destroyed.
