TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute Street Department Operator Bob Scott says filling potholes is a neverending job.
"Two days later, we'll go back in the same area, they're back," Scott said.
Scott and his crew fill at least 30 to 40 potholes a day.
"We're out every day. If we're not pushing snow, picking up leaves, rest of the time, me and my partner here, we're potholin," he said.
With the mild winter we've having combined with some chilling days, more potholes form.
That's why whenever it's not snowing or raining, the crew is on the move.
"The potholes maybe start out kind of small and if it's been warm for a while, it gets cold, they'll expand."
Time is of the essence when it comes to taking care of our roads and your car.
"If I didn't fill that a few minutes ago, say you come back a week later with temperatures changing with weather conditions, that'd probably be three times that size and it'd probably be deeper."
It can be a dangerous job. That's why another truck usually follows behind with extra lights.
"We're just there to do our job, do it as quick as we can and keep going. We get hand gestures, we're called names."
It's a job that this crew just can't escape.
"On the weekends when I'm not working, I'll be out driving around in my own personal vehicle looking for potholes."
It works daily to make sure our roads are ready.
If you spot a pothole, you're encouraged to call 311 and report it.
