LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. (WTHI) - Lawrenceville, Illinois Mourns Spc. Trevor Pinnick
20 year old Lawrenceville native dies while taking part in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan
Another Wabash Valley community is mourning the death of a soldier in Afghanistan.
Lawrenceville City Officials say the family of Army Specialist Trevor Pinnick has informed them of his death while on duty in that country.
The small city has immediately begun honoring the young man who served his nation.
The flag outside of Lawrenceville High School is at half-staff.
Just a little more than 2 years ago Trevor Pinnick graduated from there.
Now, after being killed in Afghanistan he is being remembered.
"Trevor was kind of a quiet kid at school," said High School Principal Paul Higgenbotham. "He got along with pretty much everybody and he was one of those, his senior year had decided to go into the military."
A glance through his senior year book shows a friendly young man, someone a long way from becoming a casualty of a war.
"A lot of kids knew Trevor and its..it hits close to home," said Higgenbotham.
Lawrenceville has done a lot to reach out to the families of deployed soldiers, so it wasn't surprising that the mayor ordered the flags to go to half staff almost immediately.
"The moment we heard from his mother we did make call to all the city staff to get all of the flags in the city at half-mast," said Lawrenceville Mayor Brian Straub.
For now, the flags are a solemn reminder throughout Lawrenceville that a patriot has given his life, and they will remain at half staff until Specialist Trevor Pinnick is put to rest, so that his hometown can remember and honor him.
Specialist Pinnick leaves a widow and a young daughter.
News 10 will pass on any word on services as soon as they become available.
