TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Several things were up for discussion at Monday's school board meeting in Vigo County.
School officials asked to introduce a $107 million limit for the general fund. That's right around the same number from last year. The board approved that request and hopes to adopt it by Septemeber 10.
They also discussed the controversial Rise Evaluation and Develompment System. That's a program mandated by the state for administrators to evaluate teacher performance.
The state allows each district to either use their model or tweak it for their own purposes. Vigo County chose the latter. School officials brought it to the board for discussion.
Superintendent Danny Tanoos said it's unfortunate that the state feels the need to interfere with evaluation techniques. That's because he said the district has always been exemplary in its teacher evaluation practices.
"We do a great job or working with our teacher's association with our administration and training our staff to evaluate. We very readily have people moved out of the system, whether it's resignation or termination for not doing their job," Tanoos said.
The holiday season is often a happy one for the whole family, but for those grieving the loss of a loved one it can be a difficult time of the year. One local family is carrying on the memory of their son during the holidays.
