CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - State officials have announced plans to replace the S.R. 46 Bridge over the Eel River in Clay County, Ind.
State Representative Bob Heaton announced the plans Wednesday.
"Replacing this 79-year-old bridge, which was closed down twice in two years, not only increases Hoosier safety … but will provide a long-lasting solution to address this situation," Heaton wrote in the announcement.
Bidding for the project will begin in 2015 or early 2016, with construction beginning in 2016 and 2017, according to INDOT. The new bridge should be open by early 2018, they reported.
Because the current bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it will have to be removed and relocated, according to the announcement.
