TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A plane once used in our nation's military made its way to Terre Haute and received national awards.
The plane was originally built in 1947.
It was used in the National Guard in Minnesota, a flight trainer in Texas, and then given to the California Civil Air Patrol.
That's when Curt DeBaun III found the plane in a California want ad.
He and two friends bought it and completely restored it.
"It was a basket case, it was in pieces, it hadn't been flown in over 25 years, but with the history of it, being military, it was really more interesting to find that, I know it would be an interesting plane to have," Pilot Curt DeBaun III said.
The plane was recently awarded Grand Champion Classic.
At last week's Oshkosh Air Show, where 10,000 planes attended, it earned Best Liaison Plane.
