TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Investigators have uncovered new information about a series of fires across Terre Haute early Thursday morning.
One of those fires happened in the 1500 Block of Spruce, beginning in one house and spreading to another. Investigator Norm Loudermilk said that fire appears to have begun in an electrical appliance in one of the homes. A man in that home escaped safely.
Another fire on North 15 th Street involved a vacant house. Loudermilk said that fire is considered arson.
"That was most definitely a set fire," Loudermilk said Friday. "The problem we have is we don't know if it was set on purpose or accidental. Was it a squatter or a homeless person that needed some shelter to stay warm … or was it somebody making a criminal act?"
Loudermilk said authorities are also investigating a fire that damaged a bathroom in Demming Park Thursday morning.
