INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man is riding a tractor from Florida to Michigan for a good cause and to honor his friend.
Darren Hayes is riding his 1952 John Deere 60 Tractor to raise support for Riley Children’s Foundation and Ronald McDonald House. The ride is also to honor his close friend who was recently diagnosed with two inoperable brain tumors.
His friend’s daughter died of cancer about a year ago. Hayes says his friend’s wish is that the money raised does not go to the care of his own family, but to families everywhere who are experiencing similar difficult times.
Hayes started his journey in Chiefland, Florida. He will ride up U.S. Highway 19 into Georgia, through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana and finishing the 1,400 mile journey in New Buffalo, Michigan.
Hayes is also towing a small stage behind the tractor so he can give performances during his stops, in hopes of raises funds for the cause. He will also raffle off t-shirts and other items that have the name of the cause on them.
