CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - Inmates at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility take part in the performing arts Friday afternoon.
Several inmates invited family, friends, and facility staff to attend their production of "Tuesday's with Mortie."
The group wrote the play themselves with the help of a facility volunteer. They adapted the ideas from the book "Tuesday's with Morrie" and the play "Les Miserables."
They wanted to share a message of forgiveness.
"Some major themes that they thought were important to focus on in prison, but that could also be relevant for the general population," volunteer Dr. Jacquelyn Frank said. "The issues of paying it forward as well as forgiveness really seemed to float to the top."
"Some of us are in a place where we want to do something more than just do time," inmate and actor Kevin Henry added. "We hope the message is received as we intended for it to be."
The group has been working together for about a year.
