CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - The advisory board for a Wabash Valley Correctional Facilityknows the importance of inmate education.
The prison offers education to their inmates in exchange forcredit time off their sentence.
A study of the program shows that educating offenders savesmoney for the prison and increases the likelihood that thoseinmates will not end up in prison again.
"We've also known for years that the more education an offendercould receive while they were doing time, the better adjusted theywere to doing that time," Program Director at Ivy Tech Jim Hendrixsaid.
Education also helps offenders to get a job once they arereleased from prison.

UPDATE: Around 9 a.m. on Saturday, the Terre Haute Police Department responded to the Statesman Inn room 144 at 1407 N 3rd Street. Officers found Randall Norton Jr, 21, with multiple stab wounds to his back and abdomen.
Update: The Washington Police Department is looking to speak with a person of interest in an ongoing death investigation.
