TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The public was invited to grab lunch Friday afternoon, to help out students in Vigo County.
The Vigo County School Corporation hosted their 10th Annual Cookout in downtown Terre Haute.
It's an opportunity to raise money for students within the school corporation.
Proceeds will go towards several charities, including The Shoe Bus and The Backpack Feeding Program.
"I think its critical that we become and continue to be servants of the community and our staff, they do a great job of helping them out in need, and I think it's just critical that we be a leader in that area," Vigo County School Superintendent Danny Tanoos said.
Over 2,200 lunches were served.
14 of the schools also put together a basket raffle, to help make up part of the day.
Many businesses, including Wendy's, Baesler's Market and Starbucks helped sponsor the event.
Terre Haute has once again approved a tax anticipation loan in a 5 to 3 vote.
