TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - An area designed to welcome folks into Terre Haute doesn't look so welcoming these days.
This location on Terre Haute's east side was revamped two years ago, with crews tearing out the medians and putting in new landscaping.
So far this year very little work has been done to spruce up the area and weeds have taken over the flowers.
But there's a reason why the medians look the way they do.
"We just got approval about 11:00 this morning to clean the other three beds, we've been kind of dealing with that, the last couple of months and didn't have permission to go out there and close the roads in order to do this work," Mayor Bennett said.
City crews will begin working on these medians to remove weeds and other unwanted plants on Monday.
The holiday season is often a happy one for the whole family, but for those grieving the loss of a loved one it can be a difficult time of the year. One local family is carrying on the memory of their son during the holidays.
