TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A construction site in Terre Haute became an emergency scene Wednesday afternoon.
Two people were injured after a building collapsed on Terre Haute's south side at Third and Helen.
According to Terre Haute building inspectors the space was becoming Moe's Southwest Grill.
Part of the structure collapsed and two men were trapped inside.
"They look like they were putting up a trust system," said Terre Haute Fire Department Battalion Chief, Ron Steiner. "Some type of a failure, and the entire trust system came down."
The building was well on its way to looking like a restaurant, but now it's the key part of an investigation.
"I heard the crash and I came to the front door and seen that all caved in," said Marjorie Snapp, a resident near the collapse. "The one man, his face was all bloody. And the other the wood was on his legs."
The two injured were taken to Regional Hospital. They're believed to make full recoveries.
Terre Haute city building inspectors condemned the building after the incident. The rest of the walls must come down. And likely a full inspection before anything goes back up.
That doesn't include a potential investigation by The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
But as far as this incident goes, officials say the crew is lucky.
