CLINTON, Ind (WTHI) - The family of the late but forever loved coach Brent Anderson is finally seeing the fruition of the memorial tribute that’s been talked about for months at South Vermillion High School in Clinton.
Anderson’s widow, Judy Anderson, the former mayor of Terre Haute, told News 10 on Monday the official dedication of the tribute is set for Friday, October 4, at South Vermillion’s big homecoming game.
The Brent Anderson Memorial Monument is made up of a giant football replica, below it inscribed “Family, Faith and Football,” Judy Anderson described, having never seen the monument. She wishes to wait for the official unveiling to view the memorial for the first time publicly.
Family, Faith and Football, she explained was Brent Anderson’s personal hierarchy of priorities. Mrs. Anderson also explained the memorial includes the years of her husband’s tenure at South Vermillion, both as a teacher and a coach; the coach’s memorable 10-and-0 season, 1974-75; and an inscribed message teachers insisted on that pays homage to Brent Anderson’s significant contribution in the classroom as well.
Judy Anderson said the memorial monument also includes, at the base, a collection of original bricks from the former high school, turned South Vermillion Middle School, demolished just months ago.
Anderson said organizers of the memorial invite everyone, namely SV alums and former football players, to the dedication ceremony, Friday, October 4, at South Vermillion High School in Clinton. The family has been asked to show up at roughly 6:30 p.m. to be witness to the momentous occasion.
