TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute mayor Duke Bennett proclaimed October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
He held a ceremony Tuesday evening at the Vigo County Court House.
Mayor Bennett helped light eight foot pink ribbons which were placed on top of the court house dome.
Bennett says it is important to spread awareness of the disease.
"For everybody that comes through our community, whether you live here or not, you'll see that this community supports breast cancer awareness and the fight against breast cancer. So on the newly painted court house you'll be able to see the beautiful pink ribbons and that's kind of what it’s all about,” Mayor Bennett said.
The ribbons will remain in place throughout the entire month of October.
