TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The United Way of the Wabash Valley is promoting literacy in children.
The organization held the “Real Men Read" book handout today.
Books were passed out to over 100 men who will be reading to kindergarten students across the Wabash Valley.
Starting in October, members of the group will visit elementary schools once a month for their readings.
United Way officials say its important kids learn to value education at an early age.
"Kids can actually see men reading a book and taking an interest in education and that really goes a long way towards helping a child in the Wabash Valley succeed in school,” Troy Fears from the United Way said.
This is the 4th year for the event.
