EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WTHI) - A teen convicted of murder in Edgar County is asking for less time behind bars this week.
Terry Payton appeared before a judge on Tuesday. The 18-year-old was found guilty of murder earlier this month.
Payton asked for a reduced sentence or the chance to serve his eight years on probation.
Both of the motions were denied by the judge.
It was also decided that Payton cannot afford his attorney any more, so he'll be assigned a public defender.
Payton's expected parole date is September of 2015.
